Your tummy's full of food, all your pocket money’s spent on gifts and you’re tired from being on your new PS5 for three nights straight… Returning back to school after the Christmas holidays can feel like a real slog! So, how do we keep motivated during this inevitable seasonal slump? Keep reading if you're looking for some tips and tricks to help you get back into the swing of things. Transitioning back after a break can be tough, but with the right mind-set and strategies, you can easily find your rhythm again.
1- Set new goals and targets.Did you know, writing down and setting your goals makes you 42% more likely to achieve them? It helps you remember them better as well as having full clarity on what you want to achieve. Is it higher grades you want? Keeping on top of your chores? Or maybe you want to be more active! Whatever it is, purchase yourself to a new Goal Diary and turn those dreams into a reality.
2- Be realistic
One of the biggest reasons we don’t stick to our goals is that we set them too high from the start. For example, if you're not currently studying regularly, trying to go from zero days a week to studying every single day is likely to feel overwhelming—and you'll probably give up. Instead, start small! Try studying just three times a week and gradually increase it as you build momentum.
3-Treat yourself.
Again, this time of year is hard to get a spring back in your step, so don’t be so hard on yourself. To keep motivated throughout the day and have something to look forward to, give yourself a treat at the end of the day! Schedule some time for yourself and unwind by watching a film, cooking your favourite dish or spending some time with your best friend.
4- Sleep is key.
We all fall victim of a midnight doom scroll or pulling an all-nighter with your bestie, but sleep is one of the most crucial things we all need; It’s our body’s way of recharging, replacing chemicals and solving problems. Can you remember the last time you didn’t get a good night sleep? It leaves you feeling unwell and truly unmotivated!Make sure you’re getting between 9-12 hours of sleep a night and try to avoid using electronics before bed.
5- Have some fun.
Studying doesn’t always have to be plonked in front of a desk with books and a pen- you can make it fun. Display and revise all of your knowledge by creating fun colourful posters. Or you could teach your friend about a subject and they teach you one. Everybody is motivated in different ways so don’t worry about taking a different approach to your learning.
