Christmas Around the World!
Christmas is celebrated in many places around the world, but they all do it a little differently! So we have gathered a few unqiue Christmas traditions from around the world to share with you all!
Japan- KFC for dinner!
Not many people in Japan celebrate Christmas, but there are a few that have developed a unqiue tradition. In 1974 Kentucky Fried Chicken launched its marketing campign " Kentucky for Christmas" and it has become a tradition for many ever since!
Denmark- Rockin' Around the Tree
On the evening of December 24, Danish families place their Christmas tree in the middle of the room and dance around it while singing carols.
Portugal and Brazil- Midnight Celebrations
Brazilian and Portuguese families come together on Christmas Eve to eat dinner as late as 10 p.m. Then, at exactly midnight, they exchanges gifts, toasts, and wish each other a Merry Christmas. After Midnight Mass there are eve fireworks in th town square.
Mexico- Shepard's Plays
All across Mexico members of the Church put on Pastorelas (Shepherd's Plays) to retell the Christmas story. Starting with Las Posadas, a religious march that re-enacts the journey of Mary and Joseph.
New Zealand- A Summer Christmas
Because summer falls during Christmastime in New Zealand their traditional meal is usually a Barbeque or a grill. The New Zealand Christmas tree is the Pohutukawa, a coastal species that blooms a bright-red color in December, providing shade during the sunny days as they sing carols in both English and Maori.
