As we enter this year’s national Mental Health Awareness Week (Monday 13 – Sunday 19 May 2024) we’re thinking of ways that we can support healthy young minds.
This year’s theme is “Movement: moving for our mental health” and what better way to promote better mental health than by moving our bodies and minds!
Being physically active is great for our bodies and our minds.
Movement doesn’t have to be a difficult session at the gym or joining the local sports team, it can simply be walking to and from school, dancing along with your favourite songs and even taking the stairs instead of the lift! (All of which are also completely free – which can be a restrictive factor in people exercising!)
Exercise has been proven to reduce anxiety and depression, and it can help us to prevent physical illnesses.
There are downloadable packs of information and movement trackers available at https://mentalhealth-uk.org/
Further resources and ideas about how to promote movement can be found at www.mentalhealth.org.uk
Konflux also offers a wide range of mental health and mindfulness workshops to help support your pupils at this time.
