My City - Your City - Our City
Last week saw the launch of ‘My City’ in Manchester with Our Lady’s High School. They were kind enough to host two different Primary Schools, St malachy's and St Patricks, where they came together to learn all about Manchester. The day was so much fun and the children learnt all about their city whilst gaining lots of confidence and team working skills too!
This Play in a Day is designed to cover lots of different topics such as the HISTORY of Manchester, its HERTIAGE, and CAREERS. More specifically:
- How Manchester got its name and when it was given City status
- The history of the city
- The English Civil War
- The Industrial Revolution
- Careers in Manchester - it all began with Wool and Cotton
- The culture of the City
- Career paths in the modern day Manchester

Mrs Tkaczuk who helped us organise the day from Our Lady’s High School had this to say about the day:
“Manchester is a thriving, vibrant & colourful city, steeped in History and the new ‘Play In A Day’ – ‘Manchester – My City’ captures the spirit from all those centuries ago to the present day as we travelled backwards and forwards through the centuries. So much information and so many facts learnt in such a fun way. One of my favourite parts…’Manchester rose like a phoenix from the flames’. That is the true spirit of Manchester…”
Who is 'My City' for?
My City is for any KS2 or 3 class (30 pupils), it is a full days participatory workshop where they will work with one of our facilitators throughout the day and share their performance at the end of the school day to their peers, allowing for peer-to-peer learning and to staff and parents.
Is it just for Manchester?
No, Konflux can write a Play in a Day for your city! We already have scripts for the following cities:
- Leeds
- Hull
- Bradford
- Coventry (right in time for City of Culture!)
