World Book Day!

Thursday this week marks one of the most iconic and anticipated events in the school calendar- World Book Day! Schools up and down the country will be dressing as their favourite book characters and delving into the universe of books whilst donating to charity. World Book Day’s mission is to get children around the UK ‘reading for pleasure’ and making books more accessible to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The charity was founded by UNESCO on the 23rd April 1995 and is celebrated in over 100 countries!

Since 1995 the World Book Day charity have provided every child in the UK with a £1 book voucher to put towards their favourite book OR purchase one of the charity’s own specially selected ‘one pound books’ which they release every year; some of this year’s one pound books include massive household names such as Pokémon, Paddington Bear and Bluey just to name a few! Fancy it? Your school will provide you with a voucher on Thursday 6th March which you can then redeem in selected stores… Now you have some background on the famous World Book Day, we’re going to dig deeper into the charity and explore the endless benefits of getting your head stuck into a really good book.
