National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day is on the 20th September and this year’s theme is Health is for Life. The aim is to encourage long term change and including physical and mental health in your weekly if not daily routines. To help you take this step, we have brought together some simple and fun ideas that you can bring in to your classrooms.

Go on a bear hunt

Combine reading and exercise with a physical read through of this classic tale. Whilst reading, ask the children to act out everything that is happening in the book.

Follow the leader

This classic game may not seem like exercise, but it can be very active! And it allows the children to take part and take turns in being the leader. You could even include some animal style walks to encourage walking around the space.

Red light green light

If you have a good amount of space, playing ‘red light, green light’ is a great game to get some exercise. You can even switch up the instructions and add new ones such as ‘change direction’.

Have a dance party

Liven up the classroom with a little dance party to help the kids get movin’ and groovin’

So get active this National Fitness Day and remember… health is for life!
