April: Stress Awareness Month

#BeTheChange is this year’s official theme for April’s Stress Awareness Month.

Stress Awareness Month is an annual event observed every April since 1992, dedicated to increasing public awareness about the causes, effects, and management of stress.

Stress comes in all shapes and sizes and not all stress is bad. Sometimes experiencing a little stress, whether to be at work or school, can boost productivity and motivate people towards a goal or complete a task.

However, when the stress becomes overpowering and intense, it’s useful to have some quick tips to reduce some of the effects of extreme stress.

We’ve put together some quick tips to help reduce stress in our everyday lives to support better mental health and overall wellbeing.

(If you, a parent, teacher etc is looking for any kind of support please do reach out to a professional).

  • Prioritise Sleep

  • Reach out to someone (family, friend, teacher, colleague)

  • Spend time in Nature

  • Engage in roleplay and the world of imagination (there’s a magical world out there)

  • Movement (walking, dancing, running, bike riding – anything to move your body and release those endorphins)

  • Deep Breathing

  • Practise Mindfulness
